CONGRATULATIONS Deacon Gabriel!

On Sunday, Metropolitan Serapion, joined by Bishops Soriel, Abraham and Kyrillos, ordained Deacon Gabriel as a full deacon. Next week, God willing, he will be ordained priest on Sunday, August, 20, 2023 at St. Justina’s Church in Rancho Cucamonga where he will be serving as one of their priests!  Though we will miss him, we are blessed to have served with him and to have him come from St. Basil’s church! We wish him every success in his service to the glory of God.

We also want to thank the blessed servants who helped prepare for the event on Sunday many days before the event. God bless your efforts always!

God willing, our very own blessed servant, Mina Iskander, will be ordained a priest on Sunday, August, 20, 2023 at St. Justina’s Church in Rancho Cucamonga where he will be serving as one of their priests!  Though we will miss him, we are blessed to have served with him and to have him come from St. Basil’s church! We wish him every success in his service to the glory of God.

Thankfully, he will be ordained as a full deacon on On August 13, 2023 at St. Basil’s Church, also God willing! We will have a celebration after the ordination and liturgy. Join us as we congratulate Mina and Clarissa (his wife) on their new journey!

A Couple Great Events

First, some of the ladies enjoyed a wonderful and spiritually beneficial visit to St. Katheren’s Coptic Orthodox Monastery! The trip started off with a liturgy lead by the nuns of the convent, an agape meal after and then a detailed tour of the site including the new construction going on. We will make similar trips there in the future more frequently.

Also, the High School class enjoyed a fun-filled (but competitive) laser tag trip then headed over to Fr. Michael’s home for dinner! More such fun coming soon.

YOUTH SCORE BIG ON THE FISHING TRIP!

It was a great day of fishing on Saturday. Five blue fin tuna was caught and four of them were caught by youth including a 60 pounder! Till next year!

Men’s Fellowship Event - Saturday June 24, 2023

St. Basil’s has chartered a boat to go FISHING for our next Men’s Fellowship Event on June 24th! Tickets are limited as there is only room for 30 men and boys 8 and up. Boys ages 8-10 should share a rod with their fathers.

• Adult: $150 (includes: permit, rod rental, bait, tip, and help on the boat from professionals)

The anticipated trip to the orphanage in Mexico is now scheduled for May 6th!  Though not a St. Basil function, many Coptic Orthodox Christians in San Diego from all three churches, have participated in this event and have found it to be very fulfilling.  Below is some information if you are interested:

·         Departure Date and Time: May 6th, bus will leave at 7:00AM

·         Destination: the Orphanage is located in Las Salinas, just south of Tijuana

·         Partnering Organization: Serving Orphans and Widows (SOW)

·         Questions on where to drop off donations and pick up location, contact Shady Rezkalla at (858) 945-5912

Holy Week &the FEAST OF THE RESURRECTION PASCHAL MESSAGES

Christ is Risen!  Indeed He is Risen!

It was truly a blessed Holy Week and Feast of the Resurrection this year.  We had a wonderful turnout for our Palm Sunday event. Outside, we had crafts, Palm weaving, stations for each day of Holy Week and a live donkey made a visit for the kids to ride.  We were also blessed to have Fr. Timothy from the Diocese Abbey who helped tremendously during Holy Week and the Feast of the Resurrection while Fr. Michael wasn’t feeling well. God reward him for his sacrifice and care!   

Thank you to all our servants, deacons, behind-the-scenes heroes, and everyone else who contributed in their way to make this most important time of the year so blessed.  May the love and beauty of the congregation of St. Basil’s continue to grow more and more!
