The Presentation of the Lord into the Temple, celebrated on 8 Meshir/14 February

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

"Beware of limiting the good of fasting to mere abstinence from meats. Real fasting is alienation from evil. ‘Loose the bands of wickedness.’ For give your neighbor the mischief he has done you. Forgive him his trespasses against you. Do not ‘fast for strife and debate.’ You do not devour flesh, but you devour your brother. You abstain from wine, but you indulge in outrages. You wait for evening before you take food, but you spend the day in the law courts. Woe to those who are ‘drunken, but not with wine.’ Anger is the intoxication of the soul, and makes it out of its wits like wine."

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

When the same Father Antony meditated on the depth of the judgment of God, he asked, “Lord, how is it that some die when they are young, while others drag on to extreme old age?  And why are some poor and others rich?  Why do wicked people prosper and why are the just in need?  He heard a voice answering him, “Antony, keep your attention on yourself; these things are according to the judgment of God, and it is not to your benefit to know anything about them.

NATIVITY FAST

November 25th marked the first day of the "Little Fast," also known as the Nativity Fast. Fasting is not just about changing ingredients; it should be a real spiritual discipline with goals. I encourage each of you to take the discipline seriously and to consult with your spiritual father for an appropriate prescription for your fasting period, as well as what spiritual disciplines to partake of during this blessed time. May the Lord bless this fast for all of us and let it be a source of fruit to all of us. -Abouna Antony

SERVING ORPHANS AND WIDOWS MINISTRY

We are planning a trip on January 20th to Tijuana, Mexico, to serve at an orphanage with a Christian organization called Serving Orphans and Widows. Transportation will cost between $20-40, and you must have a valid passport to join. The deadline for joining is January 5th. Monetary donations or a donation of clothing, toys, or household supplies are very appreciated! Please contact Sarah Michael with any questions.

ANNOUNCEMENTS, VISITATIONS & CONFESSIONS

Please let us know if you have any upcoming important events for us to share with our fellow congregants. Special events are best shared amongst our family, and we encourage you to share your special news with us. In addition, if you would like to schedule a time for a visit or confession with Father Antony Paul, please email him or approach him after the Liturgy on Sunday.
