FR. MICHAEL’S RECEPTION AND FIRST LITURGY AT ST. BASIL

Please join us in welcoming Father Michael after his return from Egypt. He will be received at the church on Saturday April 13th at Vespers at 6pm and will conduct his first liturgy at St. Basil on April 14th Sunday morning.

BLESSINGS OF THE HOME DURING GREAT LENT

Andil or blessings of the home that traditionally occurs during lent are available to those interested. Fr. George is available early mornings (5:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m.) as well as early/mid afternoons. Please speak with him or Daniel Gharbawy to get on his calendar.

FRIDAY LENTEN SPEAKER SERIES

TRUE PHYSICIAN MINISTRY TRAINING

Under the auspices of His Eminence Metropolitan Serapion and His Grace Bishop Abraham, the Department of Diakonia is offering a one day training for those who desire to serve the sick. Attendees will earn a certificate of completion at the end of the training.

Each training day will begin with the celebration of the Divine Liturgy at 8:00 a.m. and will end at 6:00 p.m. For more information and registration, click here.

Under the auspices of His Eminence Metropolitan Serapion and His Grace Bishop Abraham, the Department of Diakonia is offering a one day training for those who desire to serve the sick. Attendees will earn a certificate of completion at the end of the training.

As we began the Holy and Great Fast, it is important that each of us receives spiritual guidance with regards to how to fast - please ensure you receive guidance from your spiritual father. Lent is a time of asceticism and self-control; a time for modesty in all that we do. We prepare for the most holy time of the year, where we remember our Lord's agony, death, and far more importantly: resurrection.

This week, we are celebrating Ehab’s ordination to deacon at St. Paul American Coptic Orthodox Church on March 2, as well as the ordination to priest at St. Basil on March 3. We anticipate at least 200 people in attendance for the ordination, including 3 bishops. We need everyone’s help to make this event a success! Also, we collect donations and get catered Mediterranean food, a cake, and drinks. The estimated cost is ~$1500.  Please give whatever you are able to.  It will be much appreciated. Dr. Philip Mamalakis, author of the Orthodox parenting book "Parenting Toward the Kingdom," will be a guest speaker at St. Gregory American Coptic Orthodox Church in Anaheim, CA on Sunday, February 24 after liturgy to discuss how to raise our children with Orthodox Christian principles! How can we help them succeed? How can we raise them to love the church? How do we deal with discipline? You will NOT want to miss this special event!

THE SHROUD OF TURIN WITH DR. JOHN & REBECCA JACKSON

Dr. Jackson, an international physicist who led a 40-person team of international scientists to study the Shroud. As the primary custodian of the data, he runs the Turin Shroud Center in Colorado with his wife, Rebecca, a convert to Christianity from Orthodox Judaism and is leading researcher into the ancient Jewish aspects of the Shroud.

The special youth meeting on February 15th is intended for those in 11th grade and beyond.

THE SHROUD OF TURIN WITH DR. JOHN & REBECCA JACKSON

Dr. Jackson, an international physicist who led a 40-person team of international scientists to study the Shroud. As the primary custodian of the data, he runs the Turin Shroud Center in Colorado with his wife, Rebecca, a convert to Christianity from Orthodox Judaism and is leading researcher into the ancient Jewish aspects of the Shroud.

The special youth meeting on February 15th is intended for those in 11th grade and beyond.

• 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Talk #2: Dr. John Jackson - Cosmology and Proof of The Creation

TRUE PHYSICIAN MINISTRY TRAINING

Under the auspices of His Eminence Metropolitan Serapion and His Grace Bishop Abraham, the Department of Diakonia is offering a one day training for those who desire to serve the sick. Attendees will earn a certificate of completion at the end of the training.

• March 16th at Archangel Michael Coptic Orthodox Church in Santa Ana, CA

• April 6th at St. Mary and St. Athanasius Coptic Orthodox Church in Northridge, CA

• April 13th at St. Maurice Coptic Orthodox Church in Pomona, CA

Each training day will begin with the celebration of the Divine Liturgy at 8:00 a.m. and will end at 6:00 p.m. For more information and registration, click here.
