PEACE AND GRACE!

Commemoration of the The Commemoration of St. Gregory, Bishop of Nyssa. (December 6/ Hator 26)

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“But as the soul makes progress, and by a greater and more perfect concentration comes to appreciate what the knowledge of truth is, the more it approaches this vision, and so much the more does it see that the divine nature is invisible. It thus leaves all surface appearances, not only those that can be grasped by the senses but also those that the mind itself seems to see, and it keeps on going deeper until by the operation of the spirit it penetrates the invisible and incomprehensible, and it is there that it sees God. The true vision and the true knowledge of what we seek consists precisely in not seeing, in an awareness that our goal transcends all knowledge and is everywhere cut off from us by the darkness of incomprehensibility. Thus that profound evangelist, John, who penetrated into this luminous darkness, tells us that no man hath seen God at any time (John 1:18), teaching us by this negation that no man - indeed, no created intellect - can attain knowledge of God..”

Saint Gregory of Nyssa

Because I rejoice in Your salvation.

There is none holy like the Lord,
For there is none besides You,
Nor is there any rock like our God.

Talk no more so very proudly;
Let no arrogance come from your mouth,
For the Lord is the God of knowledge;
And by Him actions are weighed.”

Samuel 2:1-3

PEACE AND GRACE!

st-bartholomew-icon-742.jpg

Commemoration of the The Martyrdom of St. Bartholomew, the Apostle (September 12 / Tout 1)

A THANKSGIVING TO GOD

Come all you faithful people, whom have been bought by the pure Blood of our Lord, and Savior Jesus Christ. Let us glorify Him for what He bestowed upon us from His benevolence and goodness, and abundantly gave us from His blessings and richness. He brought us to this day, which is the last day of the Coptic year, and we are physically healthy, steadfast in our faith, and following the footsteps of our holy fathers. We greatly thank God for He did not deal with us according to our bad deeds but He lingered on us, and kept us, to this day, in peace, awaiting our return to Him in repentance, so that he might grant us forgiveness.

So let us weep before Him with deep sighs for the transgressions and sins that we have committed. Let us repent from all our hearts on all that we have committed, from inequities and trespasses, and commit ourselves before Him to live pure and chaste lives. We ask Him to strengthen us in the True Faith, to preserve us from the snare of Satan, to grant us His perfect peace, and to repose the souls of our departed ones with the intercession of the Virgin Lady St. Mary, and all the angels and the saints.

Glory, Honor, and Worship to Our God now and forever and unto the age of ages. Amen.

5639914591560063674.jpg

Come join us on Thursday at 7:00 pm for the review of the last chapter of “The Jewel of Heaven and The Beacon of Monasticism”. The remarkable spiritual biography of our blessed Mother, Tamav (a Coptic word for “my mother’) Erene makes us bow before this great spirit that shone among us. She has a clear mission assigned from heaven. With faithfulness and tremendous struggle, she carried it on her shoulders, and offered it fully on the altar for Divine Love. For this and for all that her pure hands accomplished throughout her shining life, the Lord crowned her with glory.

Please consider bringing a dish for our potluck.

ST. MARY’S FAST

August 7 marked the start of the Fast of St. Mary. This is a two-week fast (fish permitted) that helps prepare us for the Feast of the Assumption on August 22. Please join as for a Vigil on Wednesday evening and/or a morning Liturgy on Thursday, if you can.

St. Mary is the greatest woman that ever lived. She was chosen by the Father to bear His Only-Begotten Son, gave birth to the Savior of the world, and was the first person in history to receive Christ as her Savior. Consequently, she is our model of obedience and submission; of purity and holiness; of humility and royalty. Read more here.

Commemoration of the The Reign of the Righteous Emperor Constantine, the Great (August 18 / Mesra 12)

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

'When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples saying, "Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?" So they said, "Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah and others Jeremiah, or one of the prophets." He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" And Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven, and I also say to you that you are Peter and on this rock, I will build My church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in Heaven." Then He commanded his disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.
