PEACE AND GRACE

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Luke 1:13-17

Congratulations to Christian and Argie!

Congratulations to Christian and Argie for joining in Holy Matrimony! God bless your lives together to the Glory of His name!

How beautiful, then, the marriage of two Christians, two who are one in hope, one in desire, one in the way of life they follow, one in the religion they practice. They are as brother and sister, both servants of the same Master. Nothing divides them, either in flesh or in spirit. They are, in very truth, two in one flesh; and where there is but one flesh there is also but one spirit. They pray together, they worship together, they fast together; instructing one another, encouraging one another, strengthening one another. Side by side they visit God's church and partake of God's Banquet; side by side they face difficulties and persecution, share their consolations. They have no secrets from one another; they never shun each other's company; they never bring sorrow to each other's hearts. Unembarrassed they visit the sick and assist the needy. They give alms without anxiety; they attend the Sacrifice without difficulty; they perform their daily exercises of piety without hindrance. They need not be furtive about making the Sign of the Cross, nor timorous in greeting the brethren, nor silent in asking a blessing of God. Psalms and hymns they sing to one another, striving to see which one of them will chant more beautifully the praises of their Lord. Hearing and seeing this, Christ rejoices. To such as these He gives His peace. Where there are two together, there also He is present; and where He is, there evil is not. ~ Tertullian : Ad uxorem, Second Century

To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death,
To guide our feet into the way of peace.”

The Commemoration of The Martyrdom of St. Theodore of Shotep (July 27 / Abib 20)

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Looking at his disciples, he said:

“Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
Blessed are you who hunger now for you will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.
Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.

“Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets.

Luke 6:20-23

JUL 24 || DISCUSSION WITH KRYSTOPHER BENYAMEIN FOR CLIMBING MOUNT EVEREST!

New Date (July 24) Our very own Krys Benyamein, husband of Paige McLean, ascended to the peak of Mount Everest, the tallest point on Earth, on Sunday May 15, 2022!  He is the first Coptic Christian known to have accomplished this amazing deed!  This is no small task and it takes weeks to accomplish.  God willing, Krys will give us a presentation about his adventure during Sunday School immediately after the liturgy (July 17th)!

Property Updates

  • Refinancing Complete - We were able to work with the diocese to complete the needed refinancing of the Church’s mortgage loan just in time before the major increases in interest rates. However, the closing costs ($14,347.32) have had a significant impact to the Church’s finances. If you would like to help the church replenish this amount, please consider donating by clicking here. God bless!

  • Entry Painting: Have you noticed something new as you walk up the stairs? That’s right! Some very talented individuals in the church have offered their time and talent to help decorate the main entry to the sanctuary!

  • Roof maintenance: Annual roof maintenance will occur in the coming weeks and no impact to services are anticipated. This essential maintenance effort includes a fresh seal over the entire roof to help ensure no leaks occur!

  • Coffee Station: Some of you have already enjoyed the lattés and expressos after the liturgy. More improvements to the coffee station area are being planned so stay tuned! If you would like to help serve coffee or be involved in the planning of this station, please let Fr. Michael or Sherif Hanna know!

  • Upgraded Security Cameras: Updated security cameras will be installed throughout the church as an added security measure! Recall that last year, there was a break-in so such cameras will serve as a deterrent as well as capture important footage, if needed.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THOSE BAPTIZED!

Congratulations to Caleb Betts and Florence Wu for their baptism!  Also, congratulations to Collin and Sara for the baptism of their son, Isaac Collin Feduska!  God bless your journey with our Lord Jesus Christ and to experience His many excellent graces!

Your shining robe now arouses admiration in the eyes of all who behold you, and the radiance of your garments proves that your souls are free from every blemish. For the future, all of you, both you who have just deserved the gift (of baptism) and all who have already reaped for yourselves the benefit of His great generosity, must make the excellence of your conduct visible to all and, after the fashion of a torch, you must illumine those who look upon you… let us be eager to preserve this beauty in its full bloom and let us learn what can keep it bright. ~ St. John Chrysostom (Baptismal Instructions)
