Commemoration of the Martyrdom of St. George, the Prince of the Martyrs (May 1 / Baramouda 23)

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me. This is the bread which came down from heaven--not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever."

Jn 6:54-58

Holy Week &the FEAST OF THE RESURRECTION PASCHAL MESSAGES

Christ is Risen!  Indeed He is Risen!

It was truly a blessed Holy Week and Feast of the Resurrection this year.  We had a wonderful turnout for our Palm Sunday event. Outside, we had crafts, Palm weaving, stations for each day of Holy Week and a live donkey made a visit for the kids to ride.  We were also blessed to have Fr. Timothy from the Diocese Abbey who helped tremendously during Holy Week and the Feast of the Resurrection while Fr. Michael wasn’t feeling well. God reward him for his sacrifice and care!

Thank you to all our servants, deacons, behind-the-scenes heroes, and everyone else who contributed in their way to make this most important time of the year so blessed.  May the love and beauty of the congregation of St. Basil’s continue to grow more and more!

Be sure to view and upload photos here!

Congratulations to Aaron Abdelnour!

Congratulations to Aaron and his parents, John and Lindsay for the baptism of their son! God bless your family with every joy that comes through the work of the Holy Spirit in your lives!

St. Cyril of Jerusalem - On the Mysteries Of Baptism. Catechetical Lecture 20

4. After these things, you were led to the holy pool of Divine Baptism, as Christ was carried from the Cross to the Sepulchre which is before our eyes. And each of you was asked, whether he believed in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and you made that saving confession, and descended three times into the water, and ascended again; here also hinting by a symbol at the three days burial of Christ. O strange and inconceivable thing! We did not really die, we were not really buried, we were not really crucified and raised again; but our imitation was in a figure, and our salvation in reality. Christ was actually crucified, and actually buried, and truly rose again; and all these things He has freely bestowed upon us, that we, sharing His sufferings by imitation, might gain salvation in reality. O surpassing loving-kindness! Christ received nails in His undefiled hands and feet, and suffered anguish; while on me without pain or toil by the fellowship of His suffering He freely bestows salvation.

PEACE AND GRACE

Commemoration of the Appearance of the Head of St. John the Baptist (Mar 9/ Amshir 30)

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Then Jesus cried out and said, "He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me. And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me. I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness. And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him--the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. And I know that His command is everlasting life. Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I speak."

John 12:44-50

Annual St Basil Banquet

A special thank you to all who labored so much to make this year’s banquet a huge success! The night was filled with fellowship while we reviewed where St. Basil’s church has been, current status, and vision for the future. God’s presence can be clearly seen throughout the years in the many challenges overcome and the blessings He continually pours on us. The fundraising aspect of the night was also successful: thank you to all who donated silent auction items and those who purchased tickets. We will see you next year, God willing! :)

Congratulations to Makayla and Davin!

Thank you to Bishop Kyrillos who visited us at the annual commemoration of St. Basil the Great. And congratulations to Makayla who was blessed as a deaconess and Davin who was ordained a Chantor in the church! God bless your services to the Glory of His name!

Used Clothing Drive (Through the End of January)!

Keeping in mind these colder evenings, we will be gathering some used (but usable) blankets, jackets, socks and other clothing that might be lonely and unused in the closet. A bin will be on the first floor next to the stairs until the end of January. We will be distributing these to our brothers and sisters who have need of them on the streets this season. May God bless you all. (If the bin is full, kindly place your item on the floor next to the bin.)

PEACE AND GRACE

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.’

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
‘Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!’

Luke 2:8-14
