Story from Fr. Michael that happened that day: “I walked up to santa and said, ‘Hello Bishop Nicholas!’, and the santa replied, “hello Bishop Nicolas, I’m Jack!”. I then refered him to the story of the real St. Nicholas which was hanging on the wall next to him!”:)

PEACE AND GRACE

The Departure of St. Hannah, the mother of the Theotokos (November 21, 2023 / Hator 11, 1740)

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

Mark 8:34-38

Lasagna Love - Supporting Local Families!

We will be gathering together after church on 10/15 from 1-4PM to make lasagnas, brownies, and cookies to send to the Rachel's Women's Shelter downtown (https://ccdsd.org/homeless-womens-services/).  There is a sign up sheet for supplies/ingredients and those who are interested in just cooking/baking (no experience required!) here

This opportunity is organized by a group called Lasagna Love that arranges to feed 3-4 different shelters every month, so it's a recurring opportunity for us, if we want to take it on.  We hope that we can support local families in need by making and delivering lasagnas to those in your town and nearby, as many and/or as often as we can.

Please reach out to Erene Hanna (562-619-4595 or erenepasi@gmail.com) or Fr. Michael if you want to get involved or if you have any questions!

Commemoration of the Archangel Rafael (September 7, 2023/ Nesi 3, 1739)

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

6 Raphael called the two of them aside privately and said to them: “Bless God and give Him thanks before all the living for the good things He has done for you, by blessing and extolling His name in song. Proclaim before all with due honor the deeds of God, and do not be slack in thanking him.7…declare the works of God and give thanks with due honor. Do good, and evil will not overtake you. 8Prayer with fasting is good. Almsgiving with righteousness is better than wealth with wickedness. It is better to give alms than to store up gold

PEACE AND GRACE

The Assumption of the Body of St. Mary (August 22, 2023/ Mesra 16, 1739)

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

And Mary said:

“My soul magnifies the Lord,
And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant;
For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me,
And holy is His name.
And His mercy is on those who fear Him
From generation to generation.
He has shown strength with His arm;
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
And exalted the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
And the rich He has sent away empty.
He has helped His servant Israel,
In remembrance of His mercy,
As He spoke to our fathers,
To Abraham and to his seed forever.”

Luke 1:46-55

PEACE AND GRACE

The Departure of St. Mary Magdalene (August 4, 2023/ Abib 28, 1739)

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing. For

“He who would love life
And see good days,
Let him refrain his tongue from evil,
And his lips from speaking deceit.
Let him turn away from evil and do good;
Let him seek peace and pursue it.
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
And His ears are open to their prayers;
But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
